Members of the Daughters of the American Revolution come from diverse backgrounds with a wide variety of interests. Any woman 18 years or older, regardless of race, religion or ethnic background, who can prove direct lineal, bloodline descent from patriots of the American Revolution is eligible to join with the help of our chapter registrar and NSDAR researchers.
Patriots may include: Signers of the Declaration of Independence, members of the Continental Congress, State Conventions and Assemblies and those who contributed military service, civil service and/or patriotic service. Patriotic service casts a wide umbrella, including: signers of the Oath of Fidelity and support or Oath of Allegiance; members of the Boston Tea Party; defenders of forts and frontiers; doctors, nurses and others who aided the wounded; ministers who gave patriotic sermons; service of Spanish troops and/or French nationals who aided the American Revolution; and those who provided material aid, such as food, supplies, and more. A complete list of acceptable service is available on the NSDAR website.
